News: 2006 Hamfest - Great Fun For All!

Montgomery HamfestThis past weekend produced a great hamfest for the Montgomery Amateur Radio Club. We had several "new additions" this year that we hope to see again.

KI4CSQ oversaw two Foxhunts and was quite inventive on his placement. Our first fox of the day was placed inside a Orange cone which was surrounding the bone yard. Fox #2 was placed inside a McDonalds bag and was located inside the coliseum. Both foxes were challenging and fun.

Thanks to Fred Springall - KR4YK, who brought out an Alabama Department of Homeland Security, Emergency Management Agency, communications vehicle. This gave those who were unable to see it at the field day a chance to climb in and see the impressive comm equipment supporting us during times of need. Very impressive!

The Montgomery County EC, WB5NMZ - Mark Wintersole, offered the FEMA IS100 and IS700 training. These courses are now required to enter an affected area. Mark's forums assisted MANY amateurs to be certified ensuring that the amateur community is able to serve should the need arise.

Greg Sarratt - W4OZK was on hand with the demo D-Star Repeater System. Those who came prepared with a radio were able to utilize it on UHF, and many got their first exposure to it. During the Alabama Section forum, Rick Seeders - KG4PNL was announced as the new Assistant Section Manager for the Alabama Section.

During the D-Star Forum, we found that Alabama now has 8 operational D-Star Repeater Systems. Albertville came online last week, adding to the excitement of Birmingham's new digital repeater addition.

The many other forums were well attended, and the vendors all seemed pleased with their experience in Montgomery yet again.

Thanks to all that helped pull off another great Montgomery Amateur Radio Club - ARTHUR L. PRICE (KF4ILP) MEMORIAL HAMFEST AND COMPUTER SHOW.
